I reached out to my mother in July of 2019 at the age of 20 years old while I was on a research trip in the Mariana Islands.

Through my 3 visits there, I have slowly learned to own my adoptee status and accept that I’ll always be a foreigner there. And that doesn’t mean that I’m any less Korean than the people living there, it just means we’re different.
